Initiative of Icann to allow multi-language web addresses gains popularity. What's next - alphabet changes.

Earlier this month The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Domains (Icann) made a statement which practically rediscover the Internet for more than a half of 1.5 Billion existing internet users and much more future ones. In its official declaration Icann approved the plans for first official International Domain Name (IDN) to appear next year.
Plans for IDNs were approved at a meeting in June 2008. However, it has taken until now to make sure that the translation system needed to make it work functions correctly. "The program will involve more than hundred thousand new characters that will open up the Internet to billions potential users across the world", said Peter Dengate Thrush, chairman of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann).
The internet regulator has invited countries to apply for domain names in their scripts. Several countries already responded to invitation. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Russia have announced their intentions to apply for domains in their scripts. Icann has also invited registrations from countries to apply for internationalised country codes, such as .uk or .us.
