An application developer is someone who designs, develops and/or implements mobile apps. These apps run on smartphones or tablets and add functionality to the device. Think of online banking, navigation or a game.

App developers currently have three major platforms to develop for: iOS, Android and Windows Mobile. We are often looking for developers who specialise in one of the platforms, but it also happens that we are looking for someone who can develop for multiple platforms.

During the development process, an app developer has a clear overview of the status of the app’s development. He ensures that everyone communicates with each other and keeps each other informed. Documenting the development of an app also falls under the application developer’s tasks.

The responsibilities of app developers depend on their level of experience, operating system and employer. The tasks usually boil down to this:

● Mapping out the client’s wishes
● Holding consultations with, for example, functional designers, UX designers, UI designers and programmers
● Designing, developing and/or implementing new apps and further development of existing apps. Mainly for the platforms iOS (iPhone, iPad from Apple), Android (Google) and Windows Phone (Microsoft).
● Documenting the Agile development process.
● Monitoring the consistency between the functional and technical side of the app development (in cooperation with the rest of the development team).
● Designing prototypes.
● Writing, maintaining and implementing (clean) source code.
● Informing back-end developers and ensuring a good link between the front-end of the app and the back-end development
● Determining the structure of the programming unit.
● Thinking along about new possibilities and applications for existing apps and opportunities for new apps
